Despite a myth about rendering being an easy application process, it’s not. If it is not done by a professional, it may fail or not be as nice as you’d hoped. Most renders have a standard application process; however, some may vary depending on the finish.

After an existing render has been removed and/or the wall has been prepped, the first stage is to install beading (to ensure a uniform finish). Once in place, we install a basecoat. This usually installed with two coats with full reinforcement mesh installed in between. The reinforcement mesh gives the render extra strength which prevents it from cracking with movement.

The basecoat is left to dry for between a week and a fortnight before we return to do apply the finishing coat. Depending on what system is chosen, the finishing coat can be applied between one to multiple coats. A scratch coat is then scratched to give it is desired finish whilst a sand and cement render can be rubbed down in order to make it completely smooth.
